Zero Carbon Footprint Project

To us, zero is everything

The Zero Carbon Footprint project is our statement and ambition to getting our carbon footprint as close to zero as possible. Sani is committed to contributing to the fight against climate change through a four-year journey, with the aim to mitigate emissions, increase renewable energy use and balance out remaining emissions. In 2020, Sani Resort successfully became the first carbon neutral resort in Greece, balancing its net emissions to zero, while the resort has been running on 100% renewable electricity since 2019.

Zero Carbon Footprint project initiatives extend to building up a net zero path and cover an array of programmes being rolled out until 2024. Setting 2019 as a carbon benchmark year, the resort has been investing in carbon efficiency upgrades through retrofitting of all properties within a four-year plan horizon. Sani is proud to have undergone an electrification process and source electricity exclusively from renewable sources with guarantees of origin that supplements onsite renewable energy capacity. The project will see significant investment in solar parks within the Sani area, that feed into the hotels through net metering, to further increase renewable local power.

In 2020, Sani Resort attained carbon neutral status for Scopes Ι&ΙΙ, through investing in trustworthy renewable energy Clean Development Mechanism Projects (CDM) in the developing world certified by the United Nations. As part of the Zero Carbon Footprint project, an offsetting project in the Sani Wetlands area is under development, in order to more locally offset emissions that cannot be further reduced. Sani Resort’s greenhouse gas emissions and renewable energy projects are in the process of receiving certification by ISO 14064.

Αwarded as World’s Leading Luxury Green Resort at the World Travel Awards 2020, Sani promises to deliver excellence in luxury family travel, while preserving our surroundings through the Sani Green Programme, the resort’s sustainability programme, which the Zero Carbon Footprint project is housed under.
