Sani Green

Together with Nature

Sani Green, our sustainability programme, is central to the company’s vision and activities. Under Sani Green, the company is continuously working to improve its sustainability performance throughout the resort in areas such as energy efficiency, renewable energy use, water conservation, waste minimization and sustainable procurement. The key initiatives of Sani Green are supported by a well-defined set of policies and measurable targets, all in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). An Award-Winning Eco Paradise

A haven of 5* luxury, set within a privately-owned 1000-acre reserve, Sani Resort is surrounded by a wealth of biodiversity. A core value of our sustainability programme is the encouragement of our guests to connect with this magical environment and immerse themselves into local nature and culture, one of the many reasons why Sani Resort has been awarded 10 Blue Flags. With an endless range of outdoor experiences to enjoy, 7km of soft, sandy beaches, 110 hectares of protected Sani Wetlands to explore, and over 20km of lush forest trails to adventure by bike or on foot, there are plenty of ways to embrace nature. Also awarded with the Green Key and the Travelife Gold Certification for sustainable tourism, Sani Resort has actively implemented environmental purchasing policies, recycling, energy & water management, alongside a corporate social responsibility towards employees and the local community in which we operate. The independent certification ISO 14001 sets the golden standard for environmental quality systems and we ensure to meet their annual goals and standards.

A Sustainable Resort

This year alone, Sani Resort has recycled over 219 tonnes of glass, and ensured all single use plastics (EU List) are banned. Our energy consumption has shown a 3% reduction for the year, while our electricity is supplied exclusively by renewable energy sources. What’s more, we are actively reducing our CO2 emissions, with the goal of a zero-carbon footprint by 2023.

A Protected Environment

The Sani Wetlands are home to 225 bird species, many of them rare. Since 2013, we have seen an increase of 680% in our Birdwatching tours, and in 2019 alone, over 3.400 guests participated in a Sani Eco Excursion. Guided eco trips are offered complimentary to our guests to include them in our vision for a future of sustainable tourism.

The Local Community

At Sani, we are committed to maintaining a close relationship with our local community and support it in any way we can. Wherever possible, we source our products from local businesses and make donations to local organisations and initiatives. We start close to home, with the Sani Eco Day pop-up events, which provide an interactive experience for all to learn and explore. These events are host to local art, music and products, where the unique flavours of Halkidiki are shared with our guests from all over the world.
