Sustainability Sani Green
We know we can do more and our commitment is ongoing. The Sani Green programme is the umbrella project for all Sani environmental initiatives, such as:
> reducing lighting energy consumption through the replacement of conventional light bulbs, indoors and out, with low-energy light bulbs
> meeting part of our hot water needs through the use of solar energy
> recycling paper, aluminum, glass and plastic
> recycling cooking and used oil into biofuel
> recycling used appliances and ink cartridges
> increasing the use of recycled paper and the exclusive use of non-chlorinated paper for all other documents
> reducing the use of plastic;
> recycling water for garden watering with regular testing to ensure excellent quality
> installing water flow reducers
> introducing pilot composting for organic waste from the gardens and the kitchen
> establishing no-car zones and increasing the use of electric cars
> ongoing tree planting in fire damaged areas of Halkidiki and supporting the local reforestation charity Friends of Urban Green under the programme “Plant a Tree with Sani” for 2009/10
